Occidental Mindoro Consolidated Power Corp. (OMCPC) unveiled a 7.4-megawatt (MW) solar power farm in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro province, on Monday, April 22. The event underscored the government’s increasing focus on renewable energy solutions to address the nation’s power challenges. President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. graced the occasion, emphasizing the vital role of renewable energy in providing a sustainable and immediate solution to the island’s long-standing electricity issues. The President described solar energy as a “quick solution” to alleviate the region’s recurring power shortages, particularly in underserved areas like Occidental Mindoro.
The solar power farm is expected to significantly bolster the province’s energy capacity, easing the burden on its existing power infrastructure. By incorporating clean and renewable energy sources, the project aligns with the government’s broader objectives to enhance energy independence, reduce carbon emissions, and transition to a greener energy mix.
