ORMECO Explores OMCPC’s Solar Power Facility to Drive Renewable Energy Transition

In alignment with the vision of Engr. Dolor Atienza Humphrey, General Manager of ORMECO, Inc., to establish a 15 MW Solar Power Plant owned by the Electric Cooperative, we from the Power Generation Department recently conducted a benchmarking activity and plant tour at the Occidental Mindoro Consolidated Power Corporation (OMCPC) Solar Power Plant in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro. This initiative supports our goal of promoting clean energy and reducing electricity rates for consumers in Oriental Mindoro.

The tour was a crucial step in enhancing our knowledge and capabilities in developing a similar renewable energy facility. The 7.4 MW OMCPC Solar Power Plant served as an ideal model, and we are grateful for the invaluable insights shared by OMCPC’s team.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Mr. Calvin Luther Genotiva, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of OMCPC, Engr. Antonio Morada, Chief Technical Officer (CTO), and Engr. Antonio Castronuevo, Plant Manager of the Solar Power Plant. Their gracious accommodation during our benchmarking visit and the detailed tour of their facilities, including the 20 MW Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) Power Plant, provided us with a comprehensive understanding of the operational aspects and potential challenges of managing renewable and traditional energy plants.

This experience marks a pivotal moment in ORMECO’s strategy as we work towards transitioning to renewable energy solutions. The lessons learned during this activity will undoubtedly guide us in the successful development of our own solar power initiatives, ensuring a sustainable, clean energy future for the people of Oriental Mindoro.
